Newton & Whiting Farm

Southborough, MA. Totally not haunted.

(may be slightly haunted)

Newton & Whiting Farm was established in 1719 by Ephraim Newton, who sent logs to the local lumber mill and raised sheep. It passed through several owners, particularly Lemuel Chamberlain who was a Revolutionary War veteran. In 1830 it was purchased by Rufus Whiting Sr, who passed it to his son Rufus Whiting Jr. and his wife Elizabeth. They added on to the house and built the barn. They were known abolitionists and rumored to be active in the Underground Railroad. The quilt squares in the logo are thought to have been signals for the Underground Railroad: log cabin = safe house, North Star and flying geese = go north now.

Farm stand is open when I have spare eggs, honey, fruit and veggies for sale, generally summer – autumn.
